May 30, 2016

I have to take a moment today to thank the troops for their service to our country. Their sacrifice should never be forgotten and I like to remember that Memorial Day is about their sacrifice. Little Whiskers Rattery of Washington thanks you!

That being said, I have a second reason to celebrate today. KBR Marle gave us a surprise and had her litter before Lucca! I am happy to announce we have 10 beautiful babies! We are thrilled!!!

May 28, 2016

Okay, some real good news (finally)!

KBR Marle and KBR Lucca are pregnant for certain! KBR Lucca is due any day now, and we believe KBR Marle is due a bit later than her sister. We had them paired over several weeks, so the date the pregnancy took is a bit of a guess. Anyway, have some photos!

We're REALLY looking forward to these litters! I hope to have updates on healthy litters soon :)

May 18, 2016

I just have to apologize for the radio silence. I swear I haven't forgotten about any of you! Life and work got hectic (on top of regular rat duties), so I haven't had a chance to sit down and go through my e-mails properly. I will be doing that tonight!

Unfortunately, the pregnancies did not take. However, we are continuing to pair the girls and are carefully tracking their weight gain. I really hope I have some good news for you all soon.

Thanks again for your gracious patience. Things are calming down after months of exhausting stress, so expect more updates soon!

April 29, 2016

After some waiting, I am finally comfortable announcing that KBR Marle and KBR Lucca are pregnant. This would put them both at about 1 1/2 to 2 weeks pregnant. I'll update as things progress :) For more info, see my planned litters page.

April 10, 2016

I am happy to say that all of LWRW Dipper and LWRW Amethyst's babies are with their new families. Thank you everyone! :o)

Now, for some exciting news! Last night via "rat train", I received some beautiful new babies from Christina at Shangri La Rattery. This will be the start of my Golden line, which we are VERY excited to get started on! I'll have more to say about that later. For now, I want to introduce our newest family members. They don't all have names yet and I want to get better photos, so this will be a quick intro!

Shangri La sent us the following beauties:

4 month old Golden buck -We named him Rick Sanchez
Photos don't do his coat justice!

4 week old Golden buck - We named him Morty

2 month old Golden girl - No name yet

Two lovely 4 week old black eye Siamese does - No names yet

I won't have any Goldens available for adoption for quite awhile, but I am very happy to announce our new project. Thanks to Christina at Shangri La Rattery for this opportunity!

March 27, 2016

I updated the photos on my available litters page if you haven't seen them already. Be sure to check out my Facebook page for more photos!

March 13, 2016

I've finally made my pick of the litter! I'll be contacting people on my wait list in the order they are listed on my adoption page. If you're on my list, expect to hear from me soon :)

March 8, 2016

Just a quick update. LWRW Amethyst and LWRW Dipper's litter is doing fantastic. Unfortunately, we did lose the runt early on. :( However, the remaining 10 babies are vibrant and active. We're very excited about this litter!

February 28, 2016

Well! Amethyst threw us for a loop today! She had 11 healthy babies! Apparently she got pregnant sooner than we thought :) Happy birthday little ones!

February 25, 2016

I am happy to announce that LWRW Amethyst is pregnant!
Her weight gain is steady and she has a bit of a belly. I expect the babies to be born around the second week of March. We're very excited :D

February 21, 2016

Right now LWRW Amethyst on baby watch. She's finally making some good weight gain, which is great news! Right now we're not sure why LWRW Reiko hasn't gotten pregnant yet. I'm starting to think we might just retire her if we don't see results in a few weeks. I am currently in that in limbo stage where most of my does are either too young or too old to be bred. However, that will be changing in the next few months, so I'm not worried :)

We also just recently lost LWRW Archie, which was a huge surprise. We don't know why he passed, but it looked like it happened in his sleep. I am so thankful that we have his amazing children, which shine with Archie's vibrance and love of life. I can't believe he's gone.

Losing Archie also meant that my breeding plans got ruined. I went through and updated them again, only this time I am not attaching dates. Mother Nature will take care of the timing, and we'll all just be along for the ride. I don't breed in large quantities because I don't have the time or space to have litters constantly. I do hope you understand. We give our babies quality time and care.

I'll keep everyone updated on Amethyst and Reiko. Thanks for your continued support and patience.

We'll miss you Archie :(

February 14, 2016

Happy Valentines Day from Little Whiskers Rattery of Washington!

There are more photos on my Facebook page :) Have a great day!

January 22, 2016

Sorry for the silence! I've been taking a bit of a break so I can work on some personal projects. Anyway! LWRW Reiko has been on pregnancy watch and we're weighing her every day. Of course I'll update as soon as I can confirm the pregnancy :) In the meantime, I'll try to get some new photos up on my facebook page this weekend. Have a great evening everyone!

January 5, 2015

As of today, all of LWRW Amethyst and LWRW Archie's litter have gone to their new homes. We will miss them dearly, but are always so happy that they are going to loving new families. Thank you everyone for opening your hearts and homes to these little sweeties <3

January 3, 2016

First of all, let me wish you all a Happy New Year!

I've been working on my website and finally applied some changes. The biggest one being my new Planned Litters page. This page has my tentative breeding plans for 2016. Of course these plans can change, but it will give you an idea of what to expect. :)

Also, please note that my pricing scale has changed. This aligns me with the pricing requirements for RatsPacNW events. I will also require a 50% non-refundable deposit 3 weeks before the pickup date to assure your babies are reserved. This is in hopes of lowering the number of people who opt out at the last second. Please see my Adoption page for further details.

December 25, 2015

Merry Christmas from Little Whiskers Rattery of Washington!

December 24, 2015

I just found out that my rattery name "Little Whiskers Rattery" had been previously listed with AFRMA by another breeder. While they are no longer breeding, I cannot keep the same name or initials.

With this in mind, going forward, my rattery will be referenced as Little Whiskers Rattery of Washington per the suggestion of AFRMA. I will start using the new initials LWRW from here on out.

I will NOT be changing my logo, website address, Facebook page address, e-mail, etc. So really this isn't a big change for any of you. I just get the pleasure of being listed with AFRMA ;) Let me know if you have any questions!

December 19, 2015

First of all, LWR Archie and LWR Amethyst's babies are doing fantastic! If you'd like to see more photos and video, I encourage you to visit my Facebook page!

Today I picked up my two new girls from Kobold Rattery. I'm very happy to introduce the two newest members of my family! (Click on the thumbnail for a larger version.)

KBR Lucca
Born October 28, 2015
Female velveteen black berkshire with dumbo ears

KBR Marle
Born October 28, 2015
Female double rex black eyed Himalayan with dumbo ears

Both girls are very sweet. KBR Lucca is a love bug filled with energy, and KBR Marle is amazingly chill and loves warmth (for obvious reasons). Eventually these wonderful girls will be added to my line, which will bring me more rex coats, dumbo ears, and *hopefully* more velveteen.

Welcome to your new home, little ones!

December 2, 2015

Here are LWR Archie and LWR Amethyst's litter at 10 days old. I discovered that I made a mistake the other day. There are actually 7 girls and 8 boys in this litter. You can see that their fur is coming in quickly. They're starting to look more like rats! They never stay still, so pictures have been... difficult. Girls are on the pink fabric and boys are on the purple. Click the thumbnail for a larger view :)

November 23, 2015

Great news! LWR Amethyst had her babies today! They all look healthy and have big milk bands. There are 15 babies total; 9 females and 6 males. Amethyst is doing great and is taking fantastic care of the litter. We're so happy!

November 21, 2015

Here are some photos of a very pregnant LWR Amethyst. She's still just as energetic as ever, just clumsier :) Amethyst is such a sweet girl who is very people oriented. Their father LWR Archie is our most cuddly boy. These are going to be some really friendly babies.

November 11, 2015

Well, good news! LWR Amethyst has been steadily gaining weight and I feel comfortable assuming she's pregnant now. Very excited over here!

November 3, 2015

Wow, time flies by quickly. Two of the boys from LWR Dipper and LWR Reiko's litter stayed with me at the rattery, and these two adorable boys went to their new forever home on October 25th:

"Trapper"
Adopted by Laura
Black variegated with a blaze, standard coat and ears.
"Potter"
Adopted by Laura
Black variegated, standard coat and ears.

In other news, Amethyst is now on pregnancy watch. It took awhile for her and Archie to get along, but they finally clicked. If the pregnancy takes, babies will be born the last week of November and will be available for adoption the first week of January.

September 28, 2015

Reiko and her babies are doing fantastic. They opened their eyes on Friday, the 25th. Ever since then, you can't keep them still for a second. They are so friendly and are already going right into our hands. They comfortably clean themselves while we hold them, and they brux all the time :)

I am really happy with this litter. The odds were very low on getting a beige baby from this pairing, so I consider myself very lucky. Now I can work on bringing more beige into my line. So exciting!

Here's a photo of the babies at 15 days old:

September 12, 2015

Happy to say that Reiko had four healthy babies last night! I finally had a good look at them and they have nice big milk bands. I didn't have enough time to sex them, as mom wasn't pleased with me snooping around. She's doing a fantastic job so far. I missed the sound of peeping babies <3

September 6, 2015

Excellent news! We are happy to confirm that LWR Reiko is pregnant.

She has a cute little baby bump and has all of the subtle personality changes the hormones bring on. We're very excited, as both LWR Reiko and LWR Dipper are two of our favorite rats (don't tell the others!)

LWR Kiki was not making any progress with LWR Archie, so we're trying to see if he'll hook up with LWR Ponyo instead. I'll let you know when we see any signs of pregnancy with her.

If you're currently on my wait list, please let me know if you're still interested. I sent a confirmation e-mail out, so please be sure to check your spam folder just in case! When adoption day comes, I'll have to forfeit the place in line of anyone who hasn't confirmed with me.

Thanks!

August 24, 2015

I apologize for the silence. I ended up being very sick for a few weeks and have been playing catch up now that I'm feeling better.

LWR Dipper and LWR Reiko were paired together all last week, and we think things went well. She's now on baby watch and could be due the second week of September. That would mean babies would be available for adoption mid October.

LWR Kiki and LWR Archie have been paired, but we're not so sure they were interested in each other. If I don't see steady weight gain soon, we will try pairing her with RRLM Scooter instead. Sometimes rats can be picky ;)

I'll have more updates as things progress.

August 7, 2015

Sorry for the long time between updates! I came down with a bad virus and had to take some time to rest and recover. Thankfully I'm starting to feel much better.

Good news! LWR Ponyo is pregnant and due sometime at the beginning of next week. Likely on Monday or Tuesday if all goes well. I'll update again as soon as the babies are born. I'm very excited! Wish her luck!

July 24, 2015

Unfortunately, LWR Kiki has not made any weight gain, and it seems that Kiki and RRLM Chester are not very interested in each other right now, which is slightly frustrating. I will continue to try with this pair, but I'm starting to wonder if Kiki would do better with a different male.

For now, I am moving forward with my next planned pairing of LWR Ponyo and LWR Archie. Ponyo is now on pregnancy watch, which I am very excited about. Thankfully Ponyo and Archie hit things right off :) More news will come once I can confirm a pregnancy. Thank you again for your patience!

LWR Ponyo
Blue Irish, standard coat, standard ears.
LWR Archipelago (Archie)
Agouti variegated with blaze. Standard coat, standard ears.

July 15, 2015

RRLM Chester and LWR Kiki have been housed together on and off through the week. We're weighing Kiki daily until we can confirm she's pregnant. I'll update as soon as I have some news. Thank you for your patience!

June 27, 2015

I'm sorry to say that Reiko's litter did not make it. She had made healthy weight gain and all was going according to plan. However, around her due date (which was over a span of a few days), her weight dropped. Sadly, no litter was produced. Reiko herself is in excellent condition, and does not appear to have any health issues. We are keeping a close eye on her none the less.

I can't help but feel sad and disappointed, even though I know there will be other litters. I got very excited about this one. Right now I am deciding on how I want to proceed. I will be contacting everyone on my wait list soon to let them know what I decide. Thank you for your patience.

June 10, 2015

I'm happy to officially confirm that LWR Reiko is pregnant. Babies are due by June 21st, and will be available for adoption at 6 weeks of age.

If you are interested in adoption, I encourage you to visit my adoption page for the current wait list and instructions on how to be added.

Reiko says hello!

May 31, 2015

I'm happy to say that pairing LWR Reiko and RRL Scooter this weekend went well. Reiko is on pregnancy watch, and I'll let everyone know when I can confirm she's pregnant.

LWR Mallow and LWR Kiki's litter is doing fantastic. The babies turned 3 weeks old today, and are healthy, active, and friendly. They can melt your heart <3 Here are a few pictures taken today. I encourage you to check out my Facebook page for more photos and occasional video!

Boy - Nicknamed "Gunter"
Reserved for Jamie

Agouti possum, standard coat and ears

Girl - Amethyst
Reserved for Little Whiskers Rattery
Russian blue dalmatian possum, standard coat and ears
Girl - Nicknamed "Garnet"
Reserved for Jamie
Black variegated, standard coat and ears

May 16, 2015

I was wrong about the sex of the babies. Two are girls and one of them is a boy! Two are reserved, and I will be keeping one for myself.

Please note that on the last weekend in May, I will be pairing RRLM Scooter with LWR Reiko. If all goes well, babies would be born towards the end of June!

Both parents have fantastic personalities. Scooter is a very vibrant boy who loves attention and enjoys rides on your shoulder. Reiko is a very energetic girl who is always the first to greet you at the cage door. She loves to be out on your shoulder so she can observe everything you do. I look forward to seeing these amazing personalities show up in the babies!

LWR Reiko
Black berkshire with head spot. Standard coat, standard ears.
RRLM Scooter
Burmese. Standard coat, dumbo ears.

There is also a good chance that some of the babies will have dumbo ears since my line carries them. I will likely keep a few babies for myself for my breeding program, but I expect the litter size to be much larger than my past few. Very excited to see this litter!

May 12, 2015

Three healthy babies were born on May 10th, Mother's Day!

I am pleased to say that Kiki and the babies are doing fantastic. It looks like there are 2 boys and 1 girl, but I will reconfirm this again in a few days.

In the meantime, enjoy some photos!

April 30, 2015

Kiki has been making steady weight gain and has suddenly taken up the wonderful art form of nest building. I feel pretty confident that she's pregnant. :o) As of today, she has been officially moved to the "nursery" cage along with Reiko for company. Reiko will go back to her own cage when the babies are due.

April 22, 2015

I am pleased to say that LWR Mallow and LWR Kiki have really hit it off.

We were able to confirm the breeding as of Friday, April 17th. Kiki is now on pregnancy watch and has already made some positive weight gain. I have a gut feeling the pregnancy took, but will continue to monitor her weight daily and will announce when I have a firm confirmation. If I am correct, babies will be born the second weekend in May and will be available for adoption at 6 weeks of age.

Yay!

April 10, 2015

My original plans to pair LWR Joker and LWR Kiki didn't turn out (they were just not interested in each other, haha), so I chose the next best candidate, Mallow. LWR Mallow is the rat we call the peacekeeper, because he gets along with everyone. He's very sweet and between the two, I believe the babies will be amazing! The babies from this litter will likely be black in color.

Both rats were paired last week, so babies could be due by the end of the month. I'm keeping track of Kiki's weight and will post when I feel certain she's pregnant. :)

LWR Kiki
Blue smoke, standard coat, standard ears
LWR Mallow

March 6, 2015

Just a quick update to say that the two baby boys are still doing good, and SR Amaya is happy and healthy. These will be some spoiled little boys!

March 4, 2015

Well, I have some good news and bad news. The good news is, SR Amaya had her babies. The bad news is, some of them were stillborn :( Only two little boys survived. This is a real shock, and I am very sad about the situation. However, the surviving boys are thriving, and Amaya is happy and perfectly healthy. I wish I had happier news, but all that really matters is that the surviving babies and their mother are healthy.

For those who are on my wait list or were thinking of being added, I will be planning another litter soon. I'll have more details in a few days. Thanks for your patience.

March 1, 2015

SR Amaya is doing fantastic! She's also looking quite round. We're on baby watch this week, so look forward to baby updates! If you're interested in adopting, please fill out an application. :)

Amaya says "Hello! Would you like some egg?"

February 22, 2015

Well, I've been carefully tracking SR Amaya's weight, and I feel comfortable confirming her pregnancy. :) Babies should be born the first week of March. I'll keep my website and Facebook page updated as things progress!

February 6, 2015

Unfortunately, there are no new babies on the way... but no worries! SR Amaya and LWR Joker are spending the weekend together again to give it another go. They'll be roommates between February 6th and February 8th. If all goes according to plan, babies will be born the first week of March. Oh well, they do say patience is a virtue ;o)

I'll keep updating my news page as things progress!

January 18, 2015

As of today, all of the babies from LWR Balder and SR Willow's second litter are with their new forever families. I'm really going to miss that litter, as they were some of the calmest and sweetest babies I've had to date. They went to some amazing homes, so at least I know they will be loved!

I will be pairing LWR Joker and SR Amaya for their second and final litter this weekend and next. After their litter, I will likely be taking a small break so myself and my ratties can rest for awhile. Raising well socialized babies takes a lot of time and effort. However, I love every minute of it and wouldn't trade the experience for the world <3

If you have any interest in my future litter, please feel free to apply for adoption!

January 4, 2015

Added some updated photos of my cages on My Mischief page!

The following 2 girls are still available for adoption! Let me know if you're interested. :)

January 1, 2015

December 6, 2014

Today Willow was happy to come out for some extra kisses and pets. While she was getting some attention, I was able to check all of the babies and get some photos. There are 11 babies total, with 7 boys and 4 girls.

Currently all 4 girls are reserved and 5 of the boys are reserved. This includes my first pick of the boys for future breeding. That means there is a pair of boys still available, so please let me know if you're interested!

Presenting, LWR Balder and SR Willow's second beautiful litter!

The Girls!
The Boys!

December 4, 2014

Babies are here!

SR Willow had her litter early this morning. I was able to have a peek at the babies, and so far I counted 10! I am happy to report that all of the babies have full milk bands and mom is doing a fantastic job! I managed to get a quick photo before I left them alone again. I'll hopefully confirm the count by tomorrow :)

December 1st, 2014

SR Willow is plump and ready to pop any day now! There are 5 people currently on the waiting list with 4 boys and 4 girls currently reserved. Please be sure to submit an adoption application if you're interested in being added to the list!

SR Willow is enjoying her giant nest... she didn't want to come out, but she gladly accepted some left over ham!

November 23, 2014

I am pleased to announce that SR Willow is pregnant. She's been making fantastic weight gain and I feel confident that the pregnancy took this time.

Babies are due as early as November 29th and will be available for adoption at 6 weeks old.

Please feel free to fill out my adoption application if you are interested in adopting. There are currently 4 people on my wait list, so apply soon!

October 19, 2014

I am happy to say that all of the babies from LWR Joker and SR Amaya's litters are now at their new forever homes. They will be missed, but I am excited for their new families!

Concerning future litters, LWR Balder and SR Willow were paired last weekend. I'm watching for signs of pregnancy and will confirm when I am certain. There are a couple people already on the waiting list, so please feel free to fill out an adoption application and get added to the list!

October 15, 2014

I now have a Rat Care Sheet to answer your basic rat care questions!

October 3, 2014

Small update today. The babies turned 4 weeks old, and I have updated the photos on the Available Litters page.

I previously confused two photos when I sexed the rats, and switched a girl with one of the boys. I didn't realize my mistake until the boys got their man bits today. Oops! All is corrected now, plus I added adorable pictures of their tummies! :)

September 28, 2014

UPDATE: THIS BOY IS NOW ADOPTED!

One of the adopters has decided to wait to get a girl from my next litter, so that means I have one baby available for adoption! Please note that he will have to go to a home where you already have rats to keep him company.

For simplicity sake, I have labeled him a black self, however he has a light white streak running up his belly and white feet!

Also, some great news! I went to the RatsPacNW rat show yesterday, and came home with two new additions thanks to Ratz Realm Rattery! Introducing my two new boys:

RRLM Chester
Russian Blue Burmese
Born August 4, 2014

RRLM Scooter
Burmese Dumbo
Born August 4, 2014

September 27, 2014

The babies are 3 weeks old today, and I have made my decision on which babies I'm going to keep. You can see photos of all of the babies on my Available Litters page!

September 7, 2014

I am pleased to announce that there are 4 girls and 4 boys from SR Amaya and LWR Joker's litter!

All babies are currently reserved. Thank you!

As of today, there is only one boy left for adoption! He will have to go to a home with someone who already has boys (or a spayed girl.) Let me know if you are interested by filling out an adoption application!

The whole litter They're piling up for warmth :)
These are the girls! These are the boys!

September 5, 2014

Babies are here!!!

SR Amaya had her litter earlier this afternoon. I don't know how many babies there are yet, as she has them hidden in a very LARGE nest and won't let me near them. I'll try and have a peek tonight or tomorrow and update with a head count. Very happy to hear all that peeping!

August 26, 2014

I was having some trouble with my adoption application form on the website, but it's fixed and working now. Just tested it and received the results with flying colors! So if you have tried to submit an application using my online form over this last weekend, you might want to submit again. Keep in mind I make it a policy to respond within 72 hours. Thanks!

August 23, 2014

GREAT NEWS!

SR Amaya has been making steady and healthy weight gain, so I feel comfortable confirming her pregnancy at this point. She is due on September 4th or 5th, and the babies will be available for adoption at 6 weeks old, which will be around October 17th.

If you are interested in one of the babies from LWR Joker and SR Amaya's litter, let me know! My adoption form can be found here!

August 15, 2014

The babies will be 6 weeks old on Monday! Time flies by. Baby Heen is now happily living with my roommate's rat Joker. They have completely hit it off, and Heen faithfully follows Joker everywhere.

Willow and babies Kiki, Jiji and Ponyo are all doing fantastic and are growing like weeds. Ponyo is huge! I decided to keep all four rats from this litter, as they are some of the friendliest babies I have ever had. The litter was small enough that it won't be a problem, and I am excited to have so many wonderful choices for future breeding.

SR Amaya and LWR Mallow were just not hitting it off. I was so sad to finally have to give up on a litter between the two. I gave Amaya a rest, and have decided to breed her with LWR Joker. He is my most human friendly rat, and I am very excited to see what amazing personalities will come from their children. I am happy to say that they hit it off right away. Their first pairing was on August 13th. I'll post as soon as I confirm pregnancy!

July 14, 2014

Yay! Four healthy babies were born on July 7th, 2014. Mom is doing fantastic, and the little ones are growing like weeds! There are 3 girls and 1 boy. As of right now, the boy and one of the girls are reserved. The remaining two girls will be available for adoption on August 18th, 2014.

Here are some photos!

June 28, 2014

Pregnancy has been confirmed for awhile now as Willow's weight gain has been very positive! She now has a bit of a baby bump and has been showing signs of nesting. Willow has been a very cheerful mommy so far, and is often bruxing and boggling. That might partially be because of all the extra food she's been getting in order to grow some healthy babies ;o) She loves her scrambled eggs and veggies! Willow says hello:

June 16, 2014

Babies are hopefully on the way!

LWR Balder and SR Willow were paired on the weekend of June 14th, 2014.

LWR Balder SR Willow
LWR Balder SR Willow

I am hoping to see signs of pregnancy soon! Currently I am weighing Willow daily as an indicator. More details to come. If this pregnancy pans out, babies will be born around July 7th! After that it will be a six week wait before they are available, so plan on babies being available for adoption around the end of August.

I just adore both of the parents of this litter. Willow is simply a sweetheart. She's beautiful, friendly, and just loves attention. She is happy to climb right up my shoulder so she can accompany me around the house. She's one of the first girls to greet me when I open the cage doors, and she always wants me to rub her behind the ears. She loves to be loved <3

Balder is my favorite of the boys (don't tell the others.) He is my alpha male and keeps order in the boy's Double Critter Nation. He is a gentle boy, and a real lover boy. He will come sit on my lap and just wait for me to grace him with my hand. He's just so sweet.

I really look forward to this litter.

My next litter (after Balder x Willow) will be between LWR Mallow and SR Amaya:
